The CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate) certification is an entry-level certification aimed at IT professionals who design routed and switched corporate network infrastructures that include LAN, WAN, and dial access technologies. The current version of the CCDA was introduced in 2002 with the release of the latest DESGN exam.
This certification expires after three years at which point the CCDA candidate must retake the CCDA exams, pass an exam at the Professional or Cisco Qualified Specialist certification level (642-xxx) or pass an exam at the CCIE level. There are no specific prerequisites for taking the CCDA exam, although Cisco does state that CCNA level knowledge is needed to prepare for the exam.
Job roles of those pursuing this certification typically include: network administrators, network infrastructure administrators, infrastructure engineers and network designers.
To achieve the CCDA, a candidate must pass the 640-861 DESGN exam.
Once a candidate has achieved the CCDA certification, they can move on to the CCDP certification.
